WIP MKII Escort
Hi everyone. Im going to open this by saying I am an ABSOLUTE beginner at this. I have NEVER 3D modeled anything before. I just love RBR and love this car and if nothing else its been a fun project (so far) Its a long way from being finished, I know that much but i was wondering if there is anyone out there that knows what next steps i should take. For example I have no idea how to create texture, how export the blender file to the SGC format, or how to incorporate the physics to the model. Other than that any feedback on the model sofar would be appreciated Ive played around with the physics files for existing cars with some success. I have a RWD NGP based physics that i personally feel behaves much more as id expect. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/2434/UyXb07.pnghttps://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/9735/SSRos9.pnghttps://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/2370/H2LBwt.pngIf ive linked the images wrong. im so sorry Im a total noob to this. Hi shaunskeoch i dont want to discourage you but if you dont have any 3d background it will be very hard for you, just to be honest with you. But you can still try! Sorry i dont what to be negative but realistic! Good luck!

Re: WIP MKII Escort
Why to duplicate existing models, I do not understand this tendency, it is pointless to make some cars in RBR no more You'd better make a good Polo R5 more time and there is not

So you can nag people to do katjo design? Gabri Rodriguez is working in the car, it will be ready when it is. Want to have it know? Go get a copy of Dirt Rally 2.0

Hunter everyone does what he wants to do! I find you very unpleasant with respect to someone who, as he says, is new to the community! And that someone unlike I know who, .... am my look offers a titan job from scratch! Instead of criticizing saying I would rather you realize something else thank you rather Shaunskeoch for offering us this original Escort mk 2!

Re: WIP MKII Escort
Greetings shaunskeoch, I can't help you but I want to express my moral support! There is definitely a need for a new Escort MkII, as I believe that the proportions of the present model are somewhat off and for that reason no official NGP physics were ever made for it. Plus, the Escort is one of the most legendary rallying cars ever built, so your work is most welcome! Judging by the tantalising previews I believe you are underestimating your skills! There are some really talented modders around here and I'm sure that if you post your doubts/queries help will be forthcoming. Good luck!

Re: WIP MKII Escort
Thanks Guiporsche that means a lot. The car definitely is a legend and means a lot to me (I'll post a picture of my own below) I know what you mean about the older MK2 models. I think the first one was a rip of the dirt model and was never quite right. Moku's model was great but has the monte carlo arches. I want to create the "classic" tarmac arched version first but later make a few adaptions to include the RS2000 pointy nose Grp2 car and maybe even and xpack version too. but im getting ahead of myself a little. I definitely love the classics and if i manage to pull this off I might have ago at some others. In the mean time what programs would you recommend i need to finish the project. for example how to get the model into SGC format? what programs best to create textures? and what do i need to include in the model to make it work with the game? (suspension geometry, brakes etc) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/2/900YON.jpg

Re: WIP MKII Escort
Hmm. Warthog released a plugin for 3DSMAX that allows you to export the model to the game. I've never tried it myself but it seems that is what everyone was/is using (at this point I should add that my only 3d experience consists of having converted one GP4 model to the old F1 Challenge 99-02). Zmodeler also supports SGC files (I think) but I would say 3DSMAX is the easiest route. The Plugin is still available from the link below, just click on it to download it and check the 'readme file'. As it's an official Warthog file the instructions should hold: https://web.archive.org/web/20090504161002/http://www.bhmotorsports.com/file/8215I have also seen some tutorials on youtube for exporting using 3DS MAX but I can't honestly say if they are worth watching or not. RE. textures I guess paintshop or gimp should work either way. As for physics and what parts you need to model.... I have no idea. There was a physics editor available but that was before NGP. I don't know how modders do it these days but it might be worth it to contact Workerbee directly over at http://www.ly-racing.de/viewforum.php?f=2. Also, you might want to take a look at this tutorial, but again there is more apt people around here than me that can help you: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww43.tok2.com%2Fhome%2Fekisen%2Feditphysics.html&edit-text=

Re: WIP MKII Escort
First thing to do would be to create proper NGP6 physics, with correct wheelbase, track widths front and rear, tire sizes etc. etc.
Only if this is done correctly, you can be sure that the dimensions of the car are authentic. You need telemetry data to verify all that stuff. I have seen so many models which are too short, too long, too wide, have bad fender shapes, whatever.
The existing models of the Escort have very low quality. The FR model is a flipped FWD (=crap) and unusable with NGP. Moku's model looks nothing like the real thing, I guess he has somehow lost his glasses while creating this model. Otherwise he usually makes decent models, so I suppose he just had some bad days ... (same applies to the MKI).
So, as all these models did not pass quality control, there are no genuine NGP physics.

Re: WIP MKII Escort
Mr Bee. Im honored you have taken the time to post advice on my little project. the things you have done for this game are just amazing and I'd like to thank you for that.
I feel really supported to get this done right. I have a massively steep learning curve to get up but everyone's advice a tips have been exactly what i need.
There are A LOT of new data points in the new NGP6 files especially around engine cooling, oil caps, radiator cooling dynamics and brake characteristics. Im not sure where to start in getting that sort of data but i'll do my best. Im prity sure i can get the suspension geometry, wheel size, gear ratios, power output etc right though and thats going to help me make sure the model is right.
This might be a silly question but how to i test that the model fits the physics. will it simply be a case of making the physics and launching the game to see if the model fits or can i check some other way?
Also 3dsmax is crazy exspensive!!! currently im making my model in blender. I know you can import blender file to max then use the warthog car exporter, but is there a way without using max?

In order to get the model right, suspension and wheel sizes are sufficient. Don't worry about the rest. The answer is simple. You make the model, I'll take care of the physics. Everything else would be just a waste of time.
